LIFE IN MBANDAKA
Mbandaka is a bustling river town with about one million inhabitants. Streets and markets are full of pedestrians and bicycle and motorcycle taxis dodging potholes. Bicycles have wooden extensions attached to the handlebars for pushing from behind, transforming them into means of transport for everything imaginable from pigs, goats, and chickens to bags of cement or lumber.

The small motorcycles rush around carrying three to seven passengers with the driver perched on the gas tank working desperately to stay balanced and in control.
